The COTS program was funded by the US Agency for International Development, designed to export the clinical, scientific, and public health expertise on cholera and shigellosis from the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh. COTS provides a comprehensive, easily disseminated manual for quick training and management of outbreaks in resource-poor settings, and it is also ideal for use in classrooms.
COTS2.0beta is an updated version of the program to reflect changes in the subject matter ranging from shifting disease burdens, new phylogenetic findings and vaccine advancements as of early 2018. It is not yet finalized and still considered a working document.
